Grade 6:
Our goals for this week are to continue learning "Shalom" using what we have learned about duration and pitch, and begin learning to read pitch from the staff using simple drills and patterns.
Student should hand in their Music in My World projects during the first class of the week, and solo performances for this project will be completed. We will begin the second section of "Shalom"
During our second class of the week, we will continue "Shalom" and begin simple note reading drills using a variety of rhythms and the pitches sol, mi and do. Students will create their own patterns and perform them.
Homework: Students have no music homework this week.

Grade 7:
Our goals for this week are to improve our note reading speed and be able to use our knowledge of reading rhythm and pitch onn the staff to perform all of the songs on Staff Songs #1 and 2.  All students should have a mouthpiece to use in class or should have come to speak to me about using a school mouthpiece.
We will begin with a review of vocabulary and the theory worksheet assigned for homework. We will use games and drills to review reading rhythm and pitch, warm up on our instruments, and then use the 4 practise steps to accurately perform the songs on Staff Songs 1.
During the second class of the week, we will do reading and playing warm-ups and begin staff songs 2. Students will learn about question and answer songs and dotted notes.
Homework: Students should practise the assigned songs on Staff Songs 1 and 2 and be able to play all of the songs smoothly and accurately.

Grade 8:
This is week 9 in term 1. Students should have 18 signatures for practise outside of class by the end of this week.
Our goals for the week are to complete the war section of "War and Peace", begin learning about music for peace, and playing at least the first 32 measures of Tempest.
During our first class, we will complete war composing performances and reflect on what we learned.  reviewing "Abide With Me" and learning about chord tones and neighbour notes. We will review Tempest if time permits.
During the second class of the week, we will focus on peace and our study of harmony by exploring diads and triads (groups of notes played at the same time) to determine which intervals (distances between scale two notes) are harmonious. We will draw triads using every note of our concert Bb scale and perform them.
Homework: Learn measures 1-32 or more of The Tempest.
