Grade 6: This week our goals will be to begin reading from rhythmic notation using the notes used in our name rhythms and to begin using our head voice to sing simple melodies
During our first class, we will identify rhythm patterns we see and hear, and will compose a pattern using the rhythms found in family names. Finally, we will combine our rhythm patterns with others to create a musical composition.
During our second class we will learn a simple song "Long Way Home" and use simple ostinati to accompany it.

Grade 7:
Our goals for this week are to produce a tone, set up and play 2-3 notes on our first instrument (flute or trumpet)
We will begin by reading through "Why We Learn Music" and discussing it's contents and collecting surveys. Then we will practise buzzing and learn to make a tone in the mouthpiece of our first instrument. During our second class we will set up the entire instrument and learn to play 2 or 3 different notes. We will use these notes in a simple melody.
If time permits, students will receive there Instrument Response Sheet and should fill in the sections for our first instrument.
Homework: complete Instrument Response #1 if it has been handed out
Grade 8:
Our goals for this week are to continue reviewing notes using simple melodies from Tradition of Excellence Book 1. We will review the Bb major scale and the songs learned last class and choose a new song to study from song 40 higher to perform alone.
Homework: complete your Music Survey and practise your new song.
