Grade 7: Our goals this week are to become comfortable chanting lyrics, and learn about the 12 bar blues harmony.
During our first class of the week, students will review the elements of 12 bar blues lyrics and perform their original blues verse to fit with12 bars of music. They will receive a blues harmony worksheet which introduces blues chords.
During the second class of the week, students will create and perform a simple blues harmony. Using chords from their harmony worksheet, students will select notes from the required chords to create their own "Whole Note Blues" pattern. The harmony will be performed with other students in class. If time permits students may apply jazzy rhythm patterns to their measures.
Homework: Practise whole note blues and add jazzy patterns to create an interesting background.
Grade 8: Our goals for this week are to complete the first section of our STOMP and to review some of the STOMP vocabulary in preparation for a test in about one week.
During the first class of the week, students will work in their groups on the polyphonic section of their routine, perfecting the movements, rhythms and drama elements.
During the second class of the week, students will begin their second section, the monophonic part of their STOMP performance. A review of some important vocabulary will take place during this class.
Homework: Study STOMP vocabulary.
