Grade 7: This is week 3 in term 2. Students should be practising twice this week outside of class.

During the first class of the week, students will have a Mad Minute reading drill and take up the homework (their journal responses using the three elements covered last week - tempo, dynamics and tone colours). We will review Star Wars measures 1-20 and learn 21-28.

During the second class of the week, we will explore the elements of pitch, melody and tonality through a variety of listening examples such as Eine Kleine Nacht Music, Winter, Dance of the Mirlitons, Fanfare for the Common Man, and Chinese Music-Along The Silk Road.
Students will complete Journal Question #2 for homework:How does the composer of "Night on Bald Mountain", Modest Mussorgsky, use the elements of music (tempo, dynamic, tone colour, pitch, melody and tonality) to suggest a particular mood, a feeling or tell a story through music?

Homework: Practise "Star Wars" measures 21-39 and complete journal #2. Note reading drills on the web:

Grade 8: This is week 3 in term 2. Students should be practising twice this week outside of class.

During the first class of the week, students will review counting in 5/4 time and playing measures 46-51 and 21-31 in "Mission Impossible". They will focus on learning measures 31-39 (and 40-46 if possible) by writing the counting under all notes and rests and clapping the rhythm with a partner. Low brasses and woodwinds will look up the fingerings for any new notes required for this section.

During the second class of the week, our goal will be to consolidate the sections learned and perform measures 21-51 smoothly and accurately.

Homework: Practise "Mission Impossible" measures 21-51.
